The Construction Series - Why? Rationale & Contents
Hello, in this quick post I will present myself as well as the reasons behind starting the Construction Mini-Series. My educational background is in Civil Engineering with a focus on Water/Wastewater.
With twenty-five years of construction experience spread across various sectors in the construction industry, I have learned a lot from formal training, on-the-job training as well as practical experience including but not limited to project planning, project analysis, cost estimating, project management and facility management.
The most particular aspect of my experiences is that I have worked for all the different actors in the industry:
_Manufacturer/Supplier: who are looking to sell their products to subcontractors, general contractors, owners and the general public as well. A critical aspect for manufacturers is to be specified because if they're not then they can't be a part of bids.
_Subcontractors: Who are looking to win bids and contracts so they can provide services to contractors, general contractors, construction management firms, owners and other clients
_General Contractors: Who are looking to win bids/contracts and rely on subcontractors to form strong project teams. Always in search of opportunities in the public and private sectors, they are always searching for strong subcontractors as partners because in the construction industry you're only as good as the team you're in.
_Owner/CM firm: Who are looking to build projects and always looking for strong project teams including Architects and General Contractors. They rely on sound execution in planning, monitoring, team selection, designing, planning and construction. They also consider lifecycle issues of the project at hand because it is one of the parameters affecting their bottom-line.
Having worked on both sides of the fence, I am familiar with expectations from Owners as well as expectations from General Contractors and Subs. I gained an understanding of what each group is looking for in their counterparts in order to build strong and lasting relationships based on successful outcomes. These dynamics between the different actors are discussed in my contents.
Successful relationships are based on a mutually beneficial partnership that makes all participants winners. Each party should bring valuable technical assets as well as non-tangible assets into the projects for successful outcomes. I have put together contents to discuss the variety of factors each actor can bring to the table for successful construction projects.
Having witnessed the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, I have boiled down my years of experience into short, simple, concise and straight-to-the-point videos for viewers looking for actionable items they can implement right away to get their contracting business off the ground.
The contents discuss how to bring value to your partners & clients in the construction supply chain.
